Best riding on the coast
In 2003, I had visited Powell River for a summer and fell head over heals for the technical single-track biking trails. I love the speed of downhill mountain biking but there’s a sense of accomplishment when riding the winding, root-filled and hilly trails Powell River offers.
After that summer I vowed to one day come back to this lush rain forest. And here I am. Just a mere three blocks from my house and I’m able to get lost in the bush, push myself to new levels. Experience the riding here in PR first hand though this video. It will make you want to get on your bike and ride.
The sticky on eco-friendly mats
Judy, a fellow yogini, told me that David Suzuki was on the radio (I think she said CBC) the other day and was talking about how bad yoga mats are for us. And well if your mat is made from PVC it’s the same as the water bottles we’ve been drinking out of for years. I’m not saying you should run out and replace your mat but having the knowledge that there are other products out there, will help in making a conscious consumer decision. I tried looking for the interview online or on his site, but came up empty handed.
Though I did come across this great article from Granville Magazine, that compares the leading eco-friendly mats available out there. The article gives a little history on how the yoga mat came to be, and great tips to consider when shopping.
Q&A: Why roll to the right?
When coming out of savasana (corpse pose) we roll to the side and ease ourselves back to a seated position using our arm strength. This way we aren’t jolting our calmed flow of energy, we are moving mindfully and keeping our lower backs safe from potential strain which could occur from a jack knife movement we’d normally get up with. However, this doesn’t answer the question, why the right?
It has been said we roll to the right to allow our hearts to stay open, continuing to give and receive. I have also recently learned it’s a symbol of the sun rising from the east to the west, dawning a new day after a great rest.
Anatomically we roll to the right so there isn’t any unnecessary pressure and weight on our open heart, keeping a stable blood pressure. As well, the right side of the brain is more meditative then the left allowing your mind to wake up gradually from savasana.
I would suggest resting on the left side of the body after a meal which will stimulate digestion. Also, for those students that are pregnant, for better circulation.

33 Ways to get and keep yourself motivated
Now that winter is starting to set in, I’m feeling chilled and lethargic. The winters here, on the coast feel colder then the -20 ºC winters in Southern Alberta. I find the air is heavy and damp; and chills you to the bone. Making me want to curl up on the couch until mid April. Today’s list is about motivation, just reading the first few has motivated me to read all 33, so I thought I’d share. CLICK HERE and start these winter months with a positive, productive and clear mind.

Getting organized
Ok, where have I been? Good question. Things are starting to pick up at work (Christmas is upon us), renos are still in the works, and I’m ENGAGED (Yahoo!). With all these great things happening in my life and the colder weather zapping my motivation (I have to pin it on something), there is no better time to get organized then the present and a good way to do that is making lists. I scoured the blog list I frequent and came across these nicely designed printable lists by Erin Vale. To download them for yourself click here. (Sorry for the link to a link.)
